origin of yaksha jyothishyam

In the beginning, the Supreme Being (Paramatma) existed in an unmanifested form. First, He took the form of radiant energy and created portions of this light as celestial worlds, the nine planets (Navagrahas), and the five fundamental elements (Pancha Bhutas). Through His divine will, the entire universe manifested, taking form as fire, air, water, sky, and earth. When this radiant energy combined with the five great elements, it resulted in the formation of embodied souls, leading to twelve different life forms. It is through this union that a fetus is conceived and born into the world.

At the time of birth, every living being undergoes different phases of existence and experiences six transformations (Shad Vikaras). The conditions that shape a person’s past, present, and future are explained by Jyotisha Shastra (the science of astrology). Lord Shiva was the first to reveal this sacred knowledge to Goddess Parvati. Later, a great Yaksha named Manibhadra compiled this wisdom as “Yaksha Jyotisha”, and the celestial being Yajhneshwari Devi was appointed as its presiding deity.

This divine knowledge was then passed from the Yakshas to the great sages (Maharishis), who documented it in the form of astrological scriptures. These sages include:

  1. Parashara
  2. Kaushika
  3. Agastya
  4. Mandavya
  5. Garga
  6. Sudatta (Sounaka)

After creating the universe, the Supreme Being manifested in three forms for its sustenance and protection: Brahma (the Creator), Vishnu (the Preserver), and Shiva (the Destroyer). Alongside them, the divine energies of Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Parvati emerged as the forces of wisdom, prosperity, and power. Through His divine will, these deities manage the cosmic order.

Conversation Between Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva on Astrology

Parvati Devi asks:

“O Lord, the living beings in this world experience happiness and suffering due to the influence of the five elements and the nine planets. Because of these effects, they are unable to understand their destiny. What is the reason behind this?”

Lord Shiva replies:

“Devi, understanding the cosmic movements and the influence of celestial bodies is extremely complex. It is difficult for ordinary beings to perceive the subtle forces of light and energy that govern creation and dissolution.”

Parvati Devi further asks:

“Swami, how can one comprehend these cosmic forces? How can we recognize good and bad influences and find ways to overcome them?”

Lord Shiva explains:

“Devi, through my divine perception, I will reveal the secrets of astrology. With this knowledge, humans can understand their past, present, and future and attain liberation from karmic bondage. Astrology is classified into five branches:

  1. Siddhanta – The study of planetary movements and celestial mechanics.
  2. Hora – The branch that predicts the fate of individuals.
  3. Samhita – The study of natural phenomena, animals, and the effects of planetary changes on Earth.
  4. Prashna – The method of answering specific questions based on planetary positions.
  5. Shakuna (Omens) – The interpretation of future events based on natural signs and divine messages.”

Parvati Devi inquires:

“Swami, who is eligible to attain mastery over astrology?”

Lord Shiva answers:

“Devi, only those who are born with my divine aspect, who possess noble qualities, wisdom, truthfulness, unwavering devotion to their Guru, and have undergone twelve years of rigorous study in the Gurukula, can attain this knowledge. A true astrologer must be dedicated to a life of purity, meditation, and devotion. Their words carry the weight of cosmic truth.”

Parvati Devi asks about trustworthy astrologers:

“Swami, when humans wish to understand their past, present, and future, what kind of astrologers should they seek guidance from?”

Lord Shiva advises:

“Devi, a true astrologer is one who has mastered all five branches of astrology, understands the movement of time, speaks the truth, meditates upon the Supreme, remains impartial, and studies the scriptures deeply. An astrologer should be able to perceive the thoughts and emotions of the seeker without external clues. Such a person should not be influenced by greed or personal gain. A righteous astrologer will always interpret planetary influences correctly and provide guidance based on divine principles.”

Parvati Devi requests a way for humans to overcome difficulties:

“Swami, astrology reveals the past, present, and future. But is there a way for humans to avoid misfortunes and attain peace?”

Lord Shiva reveals the solution:

“Devi, in this world, we have established sacred energy centers to uplift devotees. These divine places are charged with my spiritual essence, and those who visit them with faith can overcome their karmic burdens. Because my presence is beyond ordinary perception, not all can directly experience my divine energy. However, by worshipping at these sacred sites, devotees can free themselves from planetary afflictions and attain peace and happiness with my blessings.”

Conclusion

This discourse between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati emphasizes the significance of Jyotisha Shastra as a divine science. It explains how cosmic forces influence human life and how one can seek guidance through astrology. It also highlights the importance of righteous astrologers and the power of sacred places in helping devotees overcome difficulties and attain spiritual liberation.
